Brazilian football championship of 2017: an analysis under the optics of data envelopment analysis
Abstract
The objective of this study was to analyze how the final classification of the Brazilian Championship of Series A 2017, from the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), would be. Thus, for the estimation of the DEA, the product orientation with four inputs was considered. In this orientation, it is sought to maximize the final product (punctuation) by changing the combination of the inputs used. Therefore, the results evidenced that there are significant changes in the final classification of the competition, especially regarding the awards paid by the CBF for the final classification as well as the right to participate in the Copa Libertadores de América of 2018. It is concluded that the inputs used lead to another final classification, however, the use of other inputs may imply a new final classification.
