Abstract

The objective of the present study was to verify the acute effect of the static stretching exercise in the performance of the vertical jump with countermovement and without countermovement in soccer players of the junior category. Materials and Methods: Five male subjects aged between 15 and 25 years were selected to participate in the study. To determine the acute effect of passive static stretching, two different protocols were suggested; the first used stretching exercises before performing the tests and the other used only a general warm-up. Results: The average values found for the jump without countermovement were 35.19 cm for the condition (warm-up and jumps) and 34.33 cm for the condition (warm-up, stretching and jumps). For the countermovement jump, the value was 35.63 cm for the condition (warm-up and jumps) and 35.54 cm for the condition (warm-up, stretching and jumps). Discussion: Using the difference of the group average of the values reached during the jumps, it was found that the values for the condition (warm-up, stretching and jumps) were lower for both types of jumps, with countermovement (0.09 cm) and without countermovement (0.86 cm); the main finding was that there was a decrease in the height of the jumps regardless of whether this was performed with pre-stretch or not. We concluded that there was a decrease in vertical height for the jump with countermovement and without countermovement for the protocol that used static stretching.
