Relative age effect in Paulista football championship of young football players
Abstract
The relative age effect (RAE) has been investigated in some sectors of society, like performance in education and sports. Of modalities investigated, football present more studies with different ages, but this effect has been highly observed in young football players. Even so, there yet necessity of studies that demonstrate the percentage difference between different categories of young's football players, because still there are doubt about what age category present great occurrence of relative age. So, the purpose of present study was to investigate the occurrence of RAE of different ages, which was integrating the categories of young's football players in Paulista football championship 2014. For this, were analyzed 991 young football players of under 11 of 41 teams (age 10,4 ± 0,45 years), 1026 players of 41 teams (age 12,5 ± 5,6 years) under 13, and 1956 players of 81 teams (age 14,4 ± 0,46 years) under 15, every one compete in Paulista football championship 2014. After the tabulation of dates and separation conform category, were established means and respective standard errors, the statistical analysis was done Chi-square test (X2) and the significance adopted was established by p<0,05, which everyone analysis was executed by specific statistical software (SPSS 20.0). The results pointed that under 11 demonstrate 68,8%, under 13 indicated 74% and under 15 percentage of 72,4%. Based on present dates, we conclude that RAE is present on three categories analyzed, however under 13 and 15 indicated percentages above 70%, this indicate that in this ages RAE present high occurrence.
