Comparative analysis of agility of school athletes
Abstract
Agility consists of a neuromotor variable characterized by the capacity for rapid changes of direction, with a displacement of the center of gravity of all body or part of it. The aim of this study is to analyze the agility of young athletes, comparing and relating to the athlete's sport and position. The population was formed by schoolchildren of both sexes, aged 14 to 17 years, of the Colégio Diocesano of Teresina-PI, Brazil, being evaluated through the Shuttle Run Test. The main finding of this study was that the boys are more agile and the futsal athletes had better performance in the test than those of basketball. There was a relationship between the position of the game and agility. There was a difference in the average time between athletes in the different positions, as in the case of the wings that obtained the lowest averages among all, and the pivots, which in turn had the highest mean, being less agile than the others. In view of the above, it is concluded that the athlete's position in the game influences agility, especially in sports that require a lot of movements and changes of direction, such as futsal and basketball.
