Performance of foreign coaches in the first division of the brazilian football championship from 2010 to 2022
Abstract
This work aims to investigate the number and performance of foreign coaches in the Brazilian football championship between 2010 and 2022. For this, a descriptive research was carried out in which all foreign coaches were collected from the Daily Newsletter (BID) of the CBF. Data were stored and analyzed on an Excel Electronic Platform. The results show a search for non-Brazilian coaches with more emphasis from 2019, after a great performance by a foreign coach, reaching 9 and 10 coaches from abroad in 2021 and 2022, respectively. However, their performance, on average, when accounting for the entire period is just over 50%, demonstrating that such a significant increase in searches for outside professionals is not justified. It is suspected, from an average, mediocre performance, that there is a remnant of colonialism - at a time when one wants to be equal to the European - as one of the reasons that motivate the hiring of foreigners.
