Introduction: In the context of young athletes' sports training, explosive muscular actions such as jumping, running and changing direction are priorities for the competitive success of football players. There is a very common way to evaluate the strength and power of the lower limbs, which is to measure performance in the Vertical Jump (SV). Objective: To compare the vertical jump performance of football players in the under-15 and under-17 categories. Subjects and methods: The present study is a quantitative, observational and cross-sectional research involving adolescent male football players from the under-15 and under-17 categories who participate in the Unimontes football extension project. All vertical jump tests were performed on a contact mat (Jump System Pro Cefise®) connected to a data acquisition system (Jump System 1.0, Cefise®). Student's t test was used to compare the under-15 and under-17 groups. Results: When comparing the two categories, we observed that in the squat jump, the performance of the under-17 was better than that presented by the under-15 (p=0.0008), a result similar to that observed when the athletes performed the countermovement jump (p= 0.004). Conclusion: The study showed that the squat jump and countermovement tests can be used to compare under-15 and under-17 players.
