Urban forms of football in São Luís: spaces for 7-a-side football
Abstract
Introduction: As cities develop and transform into increasingly dense urban centers, new forms of sports have emerged to meet the demands and peculiarities of these environments. Objective: This study aims to analyze how the process of urbanization influences the construction of new forms/modalities of practicing football, particularly Futebol 7 Society in São Luís, Brazil. Materials and methods: A survey, analysis, and discussion of theoretical references were conducted, focusing on the production of urban space, the history of football, and Futebol 7. In this regard, the analysis was based on the works of the following authors: Gilmar Mascarenhas, Roberto da Matta, Paulo Miranda Favero, Henri Lefebvre, Sandra Lencioni, Milton Santos, Roberto Lobato Corrêa, among others. Conclusion: The emergence and popularity of Futebol 7 Society are intrinsically linked to urban transformations and the growth of cities. The need to adapt the sport to the available space in urban areas and the influence of real estate speculation have driven the development of this modality.
